Ananthasayanam – The Eternal Repose

Before the first sunrise, before the first word was spoken, there was only the ocean, and Him.

Upon the infinite serpent Ananta Shesha, Lord Vishnu lay in sacred slumber, as the cosmos held its breath.

Lakshmi at His feet, devoted and eternal.
Brahma upon the lotus, rising from His navel,
ready to dream the world into existence.
Gods and goddesses gathered in silence,
adorned in jewels, wrapped in reverence
all waiting for the moment
His eyes would open.

And when they did, the ocean parted, stars were born, and life began.

From His rest, all motion. From His silence, all sound. From His dream, all of us.
