a polite arrangement of features
borrowed from the mirror.
Here, it surrenders.
Eyes slide, jaw folds,
flesh admits what it always knew
that beneath the face we offer the world
lives something rawer,
something that cannot hold its shape
under the weight of being seen.
Ochre and graphite.
Anguish made careful.
